After hosting the website myself in 2001-2002 (on a Novell NetWare 5.1 Server), I moved the website to my .Mac account for the past 3 years (2003-2005). Looking over the new features of .Mac combined with the updates in iLife ‘06, I no longer felt there was enough of a value to continue paying $99/year. Don’t get me wrong, I still think it’s a good service for Mac owners with multiple machines — but I really hated not having access to Perl/CGI and PHP for dynamic content creation. I also didn’t like the fact I had to point chisenski.com to the .Mac URL using a DNS redirect or frame redirect (it wasn’t a true “A” record in DNS). This will be the first time since owning a Macintosh that I won’t be using iTools/.Mac for something. With that being said, I have moved my web hosting to a local company, StartLogic. I have used them in the past for a couple of project without any major issues, and their pricing is pretty good for the services they provide. I will be working on the website in my spare time to repost and update my blog entries and pictures. Although, don’t expect some big multimedia, whiz-bang site. I’m going to keep things pretty simple.
